‘Counselling’ and ‘Psychotherapy’ are broad terms that cover a range of talking therapy approaches. Many refer to counselling as the addressing of a specific issue, it is often solution focused, looking to help the individual find a way of coping better with the problem they have presented. It is more often short-term in its nature. Psychotherapy is largely considered to be longer-term therapy, supporting the individual with uncovering and addressing the root of their issue.
